If it feels like you have been seeing, hearing or reading about Temple University more in the news as of late, that’s because it’s true.
According to the media tracking platform Cision, from July 1, 2024, through today, the university has been mentioned in nearly 46,000 news stories. On a daily basis, experts across Temple’s 17 schools and colleges participate in interviews, providing commentary and offering insight that is helping guide the news cycle on a local, national and international level.
These stories have the potential to reach billions of readers, listeners and viewers around the globe, and they also help shine a light on Temple University and its status as an R1 research institution by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. It is also an opportunity for faculty members to use their expertise for the greater good.
“I suppose, what it comes down to, is what’s the purpose of being an academic if you’re just interested in gathering the information for your own benefit; that doesn’t seem to make much sense that the whole purpose is,” said James Brown, a professor of political science and international affairs at Temple University Japan in a 2022 interview. “It’s our responsibility to try and assist others to understand certain issues where they don’t have the luxury of being able to spend the type of time on those topics as we do. This is why we’re here.”
